How are our muscles formed?

Skeletal muscles are the organs responsible for the movement and posture of our body. They have a unique ability to contract and thus generate force that is needed for movement. In our lab at Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (iMM) we study how muscles form. These studies allow us to better understand what is wrong with different muscle diseases. The knowledge generated by these studies also serves as the basis to better understand and develop better therapies in the treatment of different diseases.
