On February 29, at 4 pm, we will have the pleasure of hosting João Lousada, to present a talk in English entitled “The journey to Mars”.
João Lousada is the Flight Director of Columbus, the European module of the International Space Station. At Columbus, João is responsible for the planning and operations of the module, as well as the safety of the astronauts on board. João is also an analog astronaut and commander of Mars analog missions for the Austrian Space Forum (OeWF). The most recent of these missions took place in Israel, in the Negev desert, where he spent four weeks isolated in the desert with a small team simulating a future mission to Mars.
He graduated from the Instituto Superior Técnico in Portugal, with a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering that included studies at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Spain and the University of Victoria in Canada.
The “Out of Our Box” are informal talks that regularly bring external speakers that work in areas outside the purely biomedical sciences or guests whose work is not related to science.
