A Unidade de Patologia Comparada funciona como estrutura de apoio à investigação feita com recurso a modelos animais e de doença humana. Oferecemos desde o apoio técnico no planeamento experimental, ao processamento histológico de amostras biológicas, consultoria em patologia e microscopia electrónica. Estes serviços estão também disponíveis para investigadores externos.
O que são a medicina e patologia comparadas?
Medicina Comparada e Patologia Comparada são divisões da medicina experimental e patologia que visam compreender fenómenos comuns a doenças de todas as espécies, incluindo a humana. A investigação centra-se nas semelhanças e diferenças entre espécies e em como objectivo o desenvolvimento, validação e utilização de modelos animais (tanto tanto espontâneos como induzidos) no estudo da etiologia, patogénese e tratamento da doença humana e veterinária. A disciplina também inclui o estudo da biologia normal dos animais utilizados como modelos laboratoriais.

RESEARCH HISTOLOGY

TEM - Transmission Electron Microscopy
TEM services are provided by Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC). Researchers interested in doing TEM, please contact Ana Biscaia Santos (anabsantos@medicina.ulisboa.pt) in order to initiate communication with IGC.
PATHOLOGIST SERVICES
- Temporarily, Pathology services will be provided by Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência’s Histopathology Unit. More information here.
- All researchers interested in doing Pathology assessment, should contact our service (imm-histologyservice@medicina.ulisboa.pt) for further information.
- For experimental design, all researchers are advised to contact Pathologist Pedro Faísca (rfaisca@igc.gulbenkian.pt) in the beginning of theirs projects.

How to use the service
- Cryostat utilisation requires booking online. Users must request booking permission online (induction/training required);
- Online requisition (link bellow) should be properly filled and submitted prior to sample delivery;
- Researchers will be notified by e-mail as soon as the work is complete, and should collect the slides at the lab; when the work is for pathology assessment the slides will be immediately re-directed to the pathologist (be sure to include all details regarding experimental setting and expected outcome of the pathology assessment in the request form or contact the pathologist).
