Manuel Tanqueiro graduated in Biology @ Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL), with a minor in Evolutionary and Developmental Biology in 2019. He then enrolled the Evolutionary and Developmental Biology masters @ FCUL, and joined the Neurogenetics of Locomotion lab @ Nova Medical School Research (NMS), where he developed his master's thesis, studying the role of mechanosensory structures in fruit-flies, under the supervision of Prof. César Mendes (NMS) and Prof. Margarida Matos (FCUL).
During his thesis, Manuel developed several assays to study fruit-fly behaviour, taking advantage of knowledge in 2D/3D designing, laser cutting and 3D printing, complemented with custom bioimage analysis pipelines to further characterize behaviour. Manuel also performed a large screen of GAL4/UAS and Split-GAL4 D. melanogaster lines, where he spent a large amount of time getting familiar with confocal microscopy, as well as bioimage acquisition and analysis.
After finishing his masters in 2022, Manuel joined the Advanced Imaging Facility @ Gulbenkian Science (IGC) in January 2023 as an Imaging Specialist, combining his knowledge of image acquisition and analysis, workflow optimization and automatization, and prototyping and problem solving.
Manuel is currently a member of the Bioimaging Platform @ Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM), resultant of the merger between IGC and Instituto de Medicina Molecular João Lobo Antunes (iMM). He has particular interest in High-Throughput Microscopy and light-sheet, as well as image analysis and scripting in ImageJ Macro Language.
