Laço and Instituto de Medicina Molecular (iMMLisboa) teamed up to investigate breast cancer. In this context, the "Fundo iMM-Laço: A Caminho da Cura" was created in order to foster new discoveries in the causes of breast cancer, reduce its incidence, and unravel the mechanisms that trigger the metastatic breast cancer, a largely unknown area.

The iMM- Laço Fund appears after the third edition of the Laço Awards, an initiative that resulted in the attribution of five research grants totaling 125,000 euros. For Laço, "the creation of this fund, in partnership with one of the largest research institutes in Portugal, is the assurance that we will continue to contribute to breast cancer research in Portugal."

Maria Carmo-Fonseca, President of iMM Lisboa, states that “this fund is a great example of how citizens can help to speed up the transfer of scientific knowledge to immediate benefit of society." Maria Mota, Executive Director of iMMLisboa, strengthens that "with this fund it will be possible to study patients with breast cancer using technologically innovative methods that can detect all genetic changes of the tumor and thereby help to improve the accuracy of treatment”.
